New Site Announced for 2nd Annual Community Trek
We are going to gather as a Community in our Traditional Territory to reconnect with the land and take part in our culturally relevant activities. ʔaq'am is looking at making this Trek an annual event with the hopes that each year will only get bigger and better. We believe community treks build better relationships which foster our strengths as a community, as families and as individuals.
2nd Annual Community Trek: Friday, August 9th - Sunday, August 11th, 2013
NEW LOCATION: Tembec Rec Site on Redding Creek Road and St. Mary's Lake Road Junction
The goals of our community trek are:
- To unite aq̓amnik, to strengthen social relationships within a cultural setting
- To create opportunities for healthy recreation such as sports, cultural activities, and performing arts
- To rejuvenate and honour traditional practices
- To share and promote Ktunaxa cultural teachings of society and art through grassroots activities
- To honour all community members, especially the elders and the children
- To develop excellence through learning at all stages of life
- To assist all our members to reconnect to traditional teachings and ceremonies
- To build leadership skills, starting from a young age, based on individual strengths, passions and potential

- Singing the Meal Song before each meal
- Pine Needle Basket making
- Cedar Bark Harvesting

- Beading
- Waȼkna (Dry Meat) making
- Traditional Games
- Dip Net making and fishing
- Berry Picking
- Moccasin Making
- Hide Tanning
