May 16th, marked our third annual Ka kniⱡwitiyaⱡa Celebration at the St. Mary’s Indian Band arbour. The celebration ran from 4:00 pm to 8:30 pm, opening with an honour song, prayer and the raising of our Tipi Poles followed by group photos. This event was attended by over 150 community members.
Bonnie Harvey did a marvelous job as Mistress of Ceremonies and the K̓iʔtik ka·kin (Champions) collaborated with the amazingly detailed presentations of achievements, goals and needs from the community. Every guest received a CD containing a 2012 Annual Report, a summary of all the presentations, a digital copy of our book of Community Planning and the artistic drawings called “Our eyes on the Horizon” from Colleen Stevenson.
Dinner was served at 6:00 which was catered by Fry Bread for Fun$. Door prizes were given away during the festivities such as Pendleton blankets, a brief case of children’s art supplies, Chris Luke’s biography, a few Ktunaxa Language CDs and an iPAD mini. Thanks to Marty Williams and the Sookenai Singers for providing the entertainment during dinner. A special thanks to the creator for providing a beautiful day and for holding off the rain until the cake was served. Hu sukiⱡq̓ukni.
