ʔaq'am Welcoming Scott Manjak as Interim Chief Operating Officer
St. Mary’s (ʔaq'am) Band Council has appointed Scott Manjak as Interim Chief Operating Officer for a period of one-year, commencing on July 2nd, 2013 and concluding on June 20th 2014.
Council felt that even though Julie Couse, Director of Lands and Natural Resources, will be absent, on her maternity/parental leave, for one year, it was of the utmost importance to continue on with the development of the Community’s Land Code under the First Nation Lands Management regime and has appointed Vickie Thomas, Chief Operating Officer, as the lead in this process. In order for Vickie to assume the lead, she would need to step away from her current duties as COO. Upon Council consulting with Scott, he has agreed to assume the duties of the COO in the interim.
With tight time constraints, Council has chosen to use the option of appointing one-year termed employment contracts for these two positions, which is allowed for in the Band’s Policies and Procedures, to quickly facilitate the personnel and duty changes and move forward with Land Code.
Scott has contracted with the Band since October 2012 in the Economic Development sector and has proven his ability in developing relationships with all of our external contacts as well as with our management team. We feel his experience will bring a fresh perspective to our organization and management team.
