ʔaq̓am- Fire of note on reserve update
Cranbrook, BC – Saturday, September 2, 2017, fire update for ʔaq̓am is as follows.
Good overall progress was reported overnight. A perimeter guard was completed on all but 5% of the perimeter. Thus far, the perimeter guard has not been breached.
Power has been restored down to 5590 Mission Wasa Low Road, BC Hydro crews are working to resume power for the remainder of the homes. Further updates are expected soon and we are hopeful that the Evacuation Order may be rescinded to an Alert. In the event that the Order is rescinded, residents will be permitted back to their homes but forewarned that air quality will be poor.
If access is not an option today, trained volunteers will be sent into the evacuated area to check on pets that did not make it out. If you have a pet that needs to be checked on, please phone our administration office and ask for your home and pet to be put on the list. The administration office is 250-426-5717.
Counselling services for those in need has been offered from the Kootenay Mental Health, please contact Larry at 250-420-1909.
An investigation will be conducted today to verify the exact cause of the fire and a report will be released thereafter.
